My name is Mark Hawyes (pronounced Hayes), founder and CEO of sinus-wellness.com

I currently stay in a suburb of the greater Pretoria metropolitan area known as Centurion in sunny South Africa.

Sometimes it takes tragedy to get us the next level in our lives. I wish to dedicate this website to my wife of 21 years Claire who passed away on the 24 September 08 after a long and agonising struggle with cancer (Lymphoma).

I never cease to be amazed at the strength of the human spirit in the face of so much adversity and pain. Claire found a way to touch others and provide comfort to them even as she suffered.

I dedicate this site to her memory and may the site be a reflection of her spirit as I try to reach out to many people afflicted with the scourge of sinus problems.

Given the topic of this website you might think that I hail from the medical profession. Not so. But then again you don't have to be a doctor to know something about the sinuses. Particularly if you have just about blown your sinuses into countless soiled handkerchiefs and tried one medication after the next to secure a unimpeded breath of fresh air.

However, I can lay claim to have a stake in another old profession. No-not the oldest profession. OK you probably guessed it, the legal profession.

Enough said I don't want to ruin a friendship. Described by friends as creative, serious,melancholic but with a dry (self-deprecating) and sometimes wicked sense of humour. Please don't quote them I'm not sure I agree.

These days I spend most of my time as a professional arbitrator and mediator in the field of Labor Law.

During 2006 and 2007 I was appointed by the then Minister of Justice as a member of a Steering Committee. The Steering Committee which was chaired by the Director General of the Department of Justice was tasked with the mandate of preparing a draft Legal Services Charter which was acceptable to the legal profession as a whole. The Charter proposed major reform to the current structure of the legal profession in South Africa.

I also currently serve as Vice Chairperson of an Association of South African Advocates.

And then I do other crazy things like create a website on total sinus wellness. Talk about diversity, but where do I find the time.

Humour aside, my endeavour with this website has been to provide information on a range of sinus related conditions and to document my personal way to almost unbelievable sinus wellness.

Please join me on the journey. Spend some time navigating the small streams of sinus information (mostly doom and gloom).

Hopefully you will eventually join the big river that winds and finds its way to sinus wellness.
