Sinus Infection Home Remedies
Let Me Count the Ways Have you tried all of the sinus infection home remedies available on the face of Planet Earth yet? If your experience has been like mine, you probably feel as if you have. I suffered for years from chronic sinus infection, and I’ve uncovered many home remedies. Let me tell you about some of them, and then I’d like to let you know about a real solution I finally discovered.
An Overview on Sinus Infection Home Remedies- Steamy showers: While you are in your shower, tilt your head back and let the water wash over your forehead. The effect of the heat and moisture should loosen mucus so that you can expel some of it. - Nasal irrigation: This was devised centuries ago. My guess is the inventor wanted to take the steamy shower idea to the next level. You take about a pint of salt water, tilt your head sideways over the sink, and pour the water into one nostril until it comes out of the other. This ritual is performed once or twice daily, and you can buy special pots made just for this purpose. A much milder version of this would be an over-the-counter saline nasal spray, or you can use a nasal aspirator. - Nasal irrigation variations: Some people recommend adding a few drops of Betadine to the salt-water mixture. There are two precautions: First, do not use Tincture of Iodine by mistake. Second, do not mix Betadine with Peroxide. Other people have reported good success by adding a couple drops of baby shampoo to their salt-water mixture.
Sinus Infection Home Remedies from the Kitchen- Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar: The organic kind is recommended, and this supposedly thins the mucus. Some people swallow two tablespoons every morning. Other people add it to a large glass of drinking water and sip it throughout the day. When I tried this, I mixed the vinegar with a tablespoon of natural honey until I got used to the taste of the vinegar alone. - Eucalyptus steam inhalation: To a bowl of steaming water you add a few drops of oil of eucalyptus. Then you put your head over the bowl, throw a towel over your head to capture the steam, and breathe it all in. You should do this four times daily. Be careful not to get so close to the bowl that the steam burns your skin and do not apply the eucalyptus oil directly to your skin. - Bromelain: This is a dietary supplement captured from the stems and juice of pineapple. It is believed to help any inflammatory condition, such as arthritis, as well as sinuses. Capsules are taken on a daily basis without food to maximize absorption into your system. People with peptic ulcers or bleeding disorders should not take this supplement, and those who take anticoagulant medications or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications should consult with their physicians before using the product. - Horseradish: You can eat the store-bought kind or take a capsule. Horseradish will get mucus moving and will help it to thin out so you can expel it easier. - Powdered ginger: This can be sniffed into the nostrils several times a day whenever your nose feels congested. If you experience nosebleeds, you should stop doing it immediately. - Tomato Tea: You need to mix up about a pint of tomato juice or V8, press a couple of garlic cloves, add in two tablespoons of lemon juice, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Instead of the cayenne pepper you can substitute a hot sauce or horseradish. Heat this up and drink it slowly throughout the day.
Ancient Sinus Infection Home Remedies- Ayurveda yoga techniques offer a couple of suggestions: The first one involves freshly pressed garlic juice put into an eyedropper. Then you tilt your head back and squeeze several drops into your nostrils. You have to keep your head back for several minutes, and while it is very unpleasant, when you finally drain out the garlic juice your troubles should (in theory at least) flush away as well. - Oil pulling comes to us from the same Ayurveda therapies: In the morning before you’ve eaten or even brushed your teeth, take a tablespoon of either sunflower or sesame oil into your mouth WITHOUT swallowing it. Then you spend between ten and twenty minutes swishing it around in your mouth and between your teeth. Lift your chin so that the oil reaches all the way to the back of the mouth, but do NOT gargle with it. You should do this until the yellow oil has become thin and foamy white, and then you spit it out. Never swallow it, as it will be filled with impurities drawn from your body. You must follow this by drinking two glasses of water. You can repeat this two more times during the day but only if you haven’t eaten for four hours. Experts claim that your symptoms might worsen before you notice improvements.
